How to Become a Freelance Private Investigator

It is difficult to work as a freelance private investigator. You can easily become required to interview potential suspects and witnesses in a case. But do you have the necessary skill set to succeed? It is nearly impossible to engage in a smooth-sailing investigation experience without the recruitment of a skilled and dedicated staff.

requirement #1: Interviewing skill

According to Leonard Lugo An interview is a form of communication with a potential suspect or witness. Thus, the purpose of any interview is to elicit information from the interviewee. A great deal of skill is needed to give a thorough assessment of a person's fitness for such a position. Successful interviewing calls for an astute and insightful interviewer. First, the interviewer must establish what type of position the interviewee wants. Some applicants want evidence of a crime. Others want the job. Others will interview to determine what they want to do in the future.

Even though an applicant may be certain this is where they want to be put in writing, some interviews go south in the beginning. The interviewer is faced with a number of tough questions: Why are you after this position? What can you get from this applicant? What is your greatest concern about hiring the applicant? How can you get the applicant to further the interests of your organization?

Requirement #2: Communication skill

In the course of an interview, an interviewer will undoubtedly ask a series of questions. But, it is essential that an interviewer communicate those questions in a way that is totally appropriate and thus conveys the exact information required. Specifically, the interviewer needs to know details about the applicant's personality, attitude, and behavior. In fact, some technical interviews require even more thought. An interviewer should prepare questions that are open ended and whichaborate answers. Basically, the questions in the interview need to be of a higher level.

The interview is the part where the applicant is put on display. Some applicants walk in grumpily dressed. Others arrive in interviewe scrubs, to meet with an authority. Those who already haveaninterviewer know that they can be a difficult person to interview, since they aren't very comfortable being interviewed. One applicant I interviewed had ample opportunity to make me feel at ease. She was very nervous. She delivered her answers very well and yet, it was obvious that she didn't believe in what she was saying. She had lost the ability to relate to me.

Requirement #4: Body language

An applicant who fails to make an impression in the initial interview may lose there chance of selection. This is almost a guarantee. But, it can be enhanced. applicant should arrive at the interview with a feeling of self confidence and a few self protective mechanisms. Carrying an easy demeanor and looking resolute can help this.

Requirement #5: preparation

preparation should be done well in advance of interview. This will enable an applicant to become relaxed and present himself in the best possible way. Some tips on preparation can be:

-- Do some research on the company. Know who you are going to meet.

-- Go to the company office in a t-shirt and jeans.

-- If you are offered a beverage, refuse.

-- Look shabbily dressed. Believe me, you will be quiz'd on this.

-- Be sure your clothes fit well.
